Unlock PDF

Remove the password from a PDF you can open. Runs on your device, nothing is uploaded.

How to use Unlock PDF

  1. 01Drop the locked PDF onto the upload area.
  2. 02If it only blocks printing or copying, it's unlocked straight away.
  3. 03If it asks for a password when opening, type that password and click Unlock PDF.
  4. 04The unlocked copy downloads and opens without a password from then on.

Bank statements, credit card bills, salary slips and tax forms usually arrive locked with your date of birth or account number. That's sensible for email, but typing the password every time you open the file, or every time you upload it to a portal that rejects locked PDFs, gets old fast.

Give this tool the password once and it saves a copy without one. The decryption is done by QPDF running as WebAssembly inside your browser, so the statement and its password never leave your device.

Some PDFs open without a password but block printing or copying text. Those are unlocked as soon as you drop them in. For a PDF that asks for a password to open, you need that password: the tool doesn't guess or crack passwords.

Questions

Is my PDF or password uploaded?

No. Unlocking happens inside your browser tab and nothing is sent to a server.

Can it unlock a PDF if I don't know the password?

Only if the PDF opens without one and just blocks printing or copying. A PDF that asks for a password when opening needs that password.

What's the password for my bank statement?

It's set by your bank and usually explained in the email: often your date of birth, part of your name, or the last digits of your account or card number.

Does unlocking change the PDF?

No. Only the encryption is removed; pages, text and quality stay exactly the same.
