HEIC to PNG

Convert iPhone photos to lossless PNG.

How to use HEIC to PNG

  1. Drop your HEIC or HEIF photos onto the upload area.
  2. Click Convert.
  3. Download each PNG, or click Download all for a zip.

PNG is the format to reach for when you want an exact, lossless copy of a photo rather than a smaller one — every pixel is preserved, with no compression artefacts introduced along the way. That matters if the image is heading into an editor for further work, or anywhere a JPG's blocky edges around sharp detail would be visible.

This converter decodes HEIC using a copy of libheif compiled to WebAssembly that runs inside your own browser, then re-encodes the decoded pixels straight to PNG. Nothing is uploaded to a server, so there's no size limit and no queue — conversion speed depends only on your own hardware.

Drop in as many files as you like. If you convert more than one, download them all together as a single ZIP.

Questions

Why PNG instead of JPG?

PNG is lossless, so the converted file is pixel-for-pixel identical to the decoded original — no compression artefacts. The trade-off is size: a PNG typically runs several times larger than an equivalent JPG.

Will the PNG be much bigger than the original HEIC?

Usually yes, often significantly. HEIC's compression is efficient and lossy; PNG stores every pixel exactly, so the file size reflects the image's full detail rather than a compressed approximation of it.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The decoder runs inside your browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server, so there is nothing to store or delete afterwards.

Is the date and location data kept?

The image is re-encoded from decoded pixels, so EXIF metadata including GPS is dropped in the conversion.

How many photos can I convert at once?

There is no set limit. The practical ceiling is your device's memory — PNGs are larger in memory than JPGs, so very large batches suit a laptop better than a phone.
