BMP & TIFF converter
Convert older formats into JPG, PNG or WebP.
How to use BMP & TIFF converter
- Drop your BMP or TIFF files onto the upload area, or click to browse.
- Choose an output format under Save as.
- Click Convert.
- Download each converted image, or click Download all for a zip.
BMP and TIFF both predate the web-friendly formats most software expects today, and TIFF in particular is often unreadable in a browser — Chrome, Firefox and Edge have no built-in TIFF decoder at all. This tool includes its own, so a TIFF from a scanner or an old archive converts the same way a JPG would.
BMP, being one of the oldest and simplest image formats, decodes natively in every browser — the conversion there is mostly about getting a smaller, more widely accepted file out the other end, since raw BMP files are often needlessly large.
Everything happens on your device: nothing is uploaded, so there's no per-file size limit. Drop in a batch, pick JPG, PNG or WebP, and download the results together as a ZIP.
Questions
Why can't my browser just open a TIFF file directly?
None of Chrome, Firefox or Edge ship a built-in TIFF decoder — it's one of the few common image formats browsers never adopted native support for. This tool includes its own decoder specifically to work around that.
Will every TIFF file work?
Most will. TIFF is a flexible container format with many possible internal compressions, and a handful of rare or proprietary variants (some raw camera formats built on TIFF, for instance) may not decode correctly.
Which output format should I pick?
JPG for photos where small size matters most, PNG if you need a lossless copy or transparency, WebP for the best balance of size and quality for anything staying on the web.
Can I convert many files at once?
Yes — drop in as many BMP or TIFF files as you like in one go. There's no per-file or batch limit set by the site.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Decoding and re-encoding both happen in your browser tab — the files never leave your device.
