Compress PDF

Get a PDF under 100KB, 200KB or any size a portal asks for. Runs on your device, nothing is uploaded.

How to use Compress PDF

  1. 01Drop your PDF onto the upload area.
  2. 02Pick a target like 100 KB or 200 KB, or type your own, or choose Just make it smaller.
  3. 03Tick Black and white if colour doesn't matter, for an even smaller file.
  4. 04Click Compress PDF, check the new size, then Download.

Government portals, exam forms and job sites cap uploads at 100KB, 200KB or 2MB, and a phone scan of three pages is easily 5MB. This tool is built for exactly that: tell it the limit and it finds the best quality that still fits under it.

Most of a PDF's size is the photos and scans inside it, so that's what this tool shrinks. It re-encodes each embedded image at the highest resolution and quality that still hits your target, and leaves text, lines and vector drawings exactly as they were, so they stay sharp and selectable. Everything happens in your browser, so your mark sheet or ID never gets uploaded anywhere.

If a target is so small that shrinking the images isn't enough, the tool falls back to redrawing whole pages as images, keeping the resolution as high as the limit allows, and tells you it did. If a PDF is mostly text and already small, there's little to shrink; the tool says so and hands back the original.

Questions

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Compression runs inside your browser tab and nothing is sent to a server.

How do I compress a PDF to under 100KB?

Choose Under a size, pick 100 KB and click Compress PDF. For many pages, tick Black and white too; it's the biggest single saving.

Why can't it reach my target size?

Each page needs a minimum amount of data to stay readable, so a PDF with many pages may not fit a very small limit. Try Black and white, or split the PDF and upload the parts separately.

Will the text still be selectable?

Yes, in almost every case: only the images inside the PDF are shrunk. The exception is a very small target that can only be reached by turning pages into images; the tool tells you when that happens.

Can I compress a password-protected PDF?

Not yet. Remove the password first; the tool tells you if a file is protected.
