GIF maker

Build an animation from a sequence of images.

How to use GIF maker

  1. Drop your images onto the upload area in the order you want them to play.
  2. Use Move earlier and Move later to fix the frame order, then set the delay between frames.
  3. Choose the number of colours, and choose Loop forever or Play once.
  4. Click Generate GIF, preview it, then click Download GIF.

Drop images in the order you want them to play — a burst of photos, a sequence of screenshots, frame-by-frame art — and set how long each frame stays on screen. The arrows above each thumbnail reorder frames if the upload order wasn't quite right.

The first image sets the animation's size; every other frame is centre-cropped to match it, since every frame in a GIF has to share one fixed size. Lower the colour count if the file is bigger than you'd like — GIF is limited to 256 colours per frame at most, and fewer still shrinks the file further at some cost to colour accuracy.

The result plays right in the preview since browsers animate GIFs natively — download once it looks right.

Questions

Why does my animation look slightly different in colour from the originals?

GIF only supports 256 colours per frame (fewer if you choose a lower preset). Each frame's colours are reduced to its closest palette, which can shift some fine colour gradients — usually not noticeable for typical photos, more visible on the lowest colour settings.

Can I use images of different sizes and aspect ratios?

Yes — every frame after the first is centre-cropped to fill the first image's dimensions, so mismatched sizes and aspect ratios still produce a clean, consistent animation.

What's the difference between "Loop forever" and "Play once"?

"Loop forever" restarts the animation continuously, which is what almost every GIF you've seen does. "Play once" runs through the frames a single time and then stops on the last frame.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The GIF is assembled and encoded entirely in your browser — nothing leaves your device.
