Bright white pages are hard on the eyes late at night, and not every PDF app has a dark mode, especially on phones and e-readers. This tool bakes the colours into the file itself, so the PDF looks the same in every reader.
Rather than turning pages into pictures, it lays colour layers over each page using PDF blend modes, the same way design apps recolour artwork. Text stays as real text: sharp at any zoom, selectable and searchable, and the file barely grows. It runs in your browser with pdf-lib, so nothing is uploaded.
Dark mode puts light text on a soft dark grey; Inverted flips every colour to white on black; Sepia gives a warm paper tone; Night uses amber text on near-black to cut blue light. Photos and diagrams are recoloured too, so keep your original for printing.
Questions
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The colours are applied inside your browser tab and nothing is sent to a server.
Can I still select and copy the text?
Yes. Nothing is turned into an image; the colour sits in layers on top of the page.
Why do photos look like negatives?
Dark mode, Inverted and Night flip every colour on the page, photos included. Sepia keeps photos close to normal.
Should I print the dark version?
Better not: a dark background uses a lot of ink. Print the original instead.
