Redact image
Black out sensitive parts so they cannot be recovered.
How to use Redact image
- Drop your screenshot or document image onto the upload area.
- Click Add region and drag the box over the text you want hidden. Add as many regions as you need.
- Choose a fill colour: black, white or custom.
- Choose an output format under Save as and click Download. The hidden pixels are replaced, not just covered.
Add a region, drag it over an account number, an address, a face — anything that shouldn't be visible — and it's filled with a solid, fully opaque colour. Add as many regions as you need.
This is a genuinely different guarantee from the blur tool: a solid fill completely overwrites the pixels underneath rather than obscuring them, so there's nothing to reverse or enhance back out. The export is a flat, fully rasterised image too, not a document with a box object sitting on top of the original content — which is exactly the mistake that's made real, embarrassing redaction failures possible elsewhere: a black rectangle that looks like it's covering text but is really just sitting on top of it, peelable or copy-pasteable straight back out.
Black and white are one click away; pick any other colour if your document needs to blend in.
Questions
How is this different from Blur face?
Blur and pixelate obscure the region but leave the underlying pixels in the file in some (mathematically diminished) form. This tool replaces them entirely with a flat colour — nothing of the original is left in the exported image.
Could someone recover what was underneath?
No — the output is a single flattened raster image. The region's original pixels aren't stored anywhere in the file; they're overwritten before it's ever saved.
Can I redact more than one thing in the same image?
Yes — click "Add region" as many times as you need and position each one independently.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The redaction is applied entirely on a canvas in your browser — the file never leaves your device.
